Vietnam Travel Restrictions in 2022

If you are planning a trip to Vietnam, here are some updated 2022 Vietnam travel restrictions and tips for you to keep in mind while you plan. While these are the most updated at the time of publication, it’s always best to double-check before traveling.

Entry Requirements

Under the 2021 Vietnamese travel restrictions, tourists may enter only by joining a tour group to destinations approved by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.

On February 16, the Vietnamese government announced a goal to fully resume visa insurance, visa waiver programs and reopen inbound tourism by March 15, 2022.

2022 Vietnamese Travel Restrictions Regarding COVID

If you travel to Vietnam, there are specific requirements that are essential to know and follow:

  • Vietnam considers you fully vaccinated if you’ve had at least two doses of one of the vaccinations, and it’s been 14 days since your last shot. Vietnam approved the following vaccinations: AstraZeneca, Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, Sinopharm, Sputnik V, Janssen (Johnson & Johnson), Hayat-Vax, and Abdala.
  • Show proof of a negative COVID test taken within the previous 72 hours (RT-PCR) of departure
  • You may expect to have to take a quick COVID test upon arrival.
  • Proof of travel insurance to cover any COVID related illnesses up to $10,000
  • When arriving in Vietnam (Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City), you will need to complete an online passenger declaration form (Health Declaration Management Information System (tokhaiyte.vn).
  • Mask wearing is compulsory in public settings.

Other Information to Keep in Mind Regarding Vietnam Travel Restrictions in 2022

It’s important to know what will happen if you contract COVID while in Vietnam. Per the 2022 regulations for traveling to Vietnam, you may need to quarantine where you are or be admitted to a hospital authorized to treat COVID. If you are hospitalized, you will be responsible for paying for your stay. You must have access to money and know what your insurance will cover. Because of this, it is more important than ever to get travel insurance. Be prepared for your plans to change or to stay longer if you test positive for COVID while traveling.
